The Obelian Empire is a powerful sovereign state with a prosperous, thriving culture. It is an empire known for its magic and magicians, and is so gigantic that it "seems like it would swallow the world".

Imperial Family[]

Imperial Crest

Current Monarch[]

Claude de Alger Obelia is the current emperor that presides over the Obelian Empire. Though he rose to the throne by murdering his older brother, the rightful heir, the citizens of the empire perceive him as a wise and just ruler.[1]

Naming[]

It is a royal tradition that spans across many generations to bestow names that mean immortality or eternity to the legitimate heirs to the throne. Those who are of royal blood but have no claim to the throne are prohibited from receiving such an honor.[2]

Jeweled Eyes[]

A familial, hereditary trait within the imperial family is the jeweled eyes. Only those of imperial blood possess a unique type of magic that manifests in their eyes, causing them to appear as blue, crystalized jewels.

High Society[]

High society in the Obelian Empire consists of the nobility and royalty. The nobility class consists of wealthy aristocratic families that work to gain political influence and participate in social affairs to establish connections. Members of the nobility class are expected to receive proper education, acquire knowledge of empire affairs, and possess appropriate savoir-faire. An annual debutante ball is held each year, where young socialites make their official debut into high society.

Magic[]

Magic is prevalent among the people of the Obelian Empire. While every human possesses magic, only select individuals are capable of wielding it. These individuals typically become warlocks and sorcerers. Spells include change appearances, turn invisible, teleportation, conjure objects, charm or brainwash people, curse inanimate objects that incur devastating effects on those who come in contact with them, body possesion, absorb magic, etc.

Divine Beasts[]

When an individual possesses too much mana, their magic will manifest in the form of a corporeal beast[3] and reflect the owner’s inner nature.[4] The beast will stay beside its owner until it reaches maturity, when it will then be reabsorbed back into the owner.[3]

Laws[]

The Obelian Empire established several laws to govern the use of magic. All magicians within the empire are required by law to register themselves, regardless of whether or not they work for royalty. Registering allows magicians to access official resources, such as high-class grimoires that contains classified information regarding magic.[5] Using magic to conjure money is forbidden, as it undermines the currency system and gives an unfair advantage to those who can wield magic. Those who are caught conjuring counterfeit money will have one hand severed, their personal belongings confiscated, and be sentenced to 30 years of manual labor.[6] Using black magic is strictly forbidden, as it results in many side-repercussions, including fatal curses that endanger the lives of the wielder and those around them.

The Black Tower[]

The Black Tower is a dwelling where many of the empire’s wizards receive formal training and conduct their practices.
