Summary[]
With nothing better to do, Jennette contemplates spending time with someone, but finds everyone pre-occupied with their own business and leaving her in the dark about the emperor’s well-being. She even considers going out but refrains from doing so in order to avoid Anastacius out of embarrassment from crying in front of him few days prior. As she questions the meaning behind Anastacius’ past words, Roger summons her into his office where he and Anastacius lightly break the ‘news’ to her. Meanwhile, Lucas placates an apprehensive Athanasia who confides her worries about the pressure of running a country. She holds a formal meeting with the heads of the noble houses. Despite the attempts of those from opposing factions, she is able to respond appropriately against rumours about Claude's condition and gains the nobles' respect. However, a brainwashed Roger challenges her authority by inquiring about Claude’s declining health.
