Summary[]
Despite initially overlooking it, Lucas reaches a definitive conclusion that the intruder who broke into his tower and attempted murder on the emperor are the same person. Nevertheless, Lucas promises Athanasia to watch over Claude and alleviates her fatigue by placing her into a magic induced sleep. With the emperor rendered incapacitated, Anastacius preps Roger to infiltrate the palace so he can reclaim his throne. Taken aback by his sudden assassination attempt, Roger repudiates his plan and questions why he chose to do it now when no one will believe his miraculous return from the dead. As he recalls Claude’s mother imploring him to not resent his younger brother and Aeternitas urging him to kill her, Anastacius proclaims the assimilation was not yet complete back then. With the duke unwilling to turn his back on the royal family, the former emperor thanks him for his service and brainwashes him.
