Summary[]
Lucas explains that Claude’s curse originally broke before completion, either gradually or by coincidence. As Athanasia sheds tears for Claude’s impending death, Lucas becomes irritated, unable to understand why death causes so much suffering for the others. He encourages her to stay beside Claude, explaining that Jennette’s presence will only numb the pain as the curse grows. Athanasia is then coerced into kissing Lucas on the cheek as payment for the extra workload of taking care of Claude.
