Diana is a supporting character in Who Made Me a Princess and the biological mother of Athanasia de Alger Obelia.

Appearance

Diana had long, wavy light blonde hair that extended past her waist with soft bangs that framed her face and rose-colored eyes. She had a slim, voluptuous figure with long, willowy limbs. Many characters have described her beauty to be stunning, resembling that of a fairy.

As a citizen from Siodonna, Diana often wore sheer, revealing clothing, gaudy head ornaments, and slippers.[3] After becoming the unofficial consort of Claude de Alger Obelia, Diana adapted to the culture of the Obelian Empire and wore lavish gowns.[4]

Personality

Diana was known for having a free-spirited personality and she approached things with a brazen manner, unrestrained and straightforward with her thoughts. Her great capacity to love eventually caused her to sacrifice her future and life to give birth to Athanasia de Alger Obelia.

Timeline

Background

Several years before the current timeline, Diana was invited to an imperial banquet hosted by Emperor Claude de Alger Obelia where she traveled a great distance from Siodonna, a province near the Obelian Empire. At the imperial palace, Diana performed a memorable dance that captivated the audience's attention, most notably that of Claude. Enraptured by her beauty and grace, the emperor deflowered Diana and subsequently began courting her. She was then given residence in the Ruby Palace as the emperor's lover.[3] The two of them would often spend time drinking tea together in the imperial gardens. Diana introduced to him Lippe tea, a type of beverage whose main ingredient is native to Siodonna.[5]

Eventually, Diana became pregnant [3] and Claude begged her to choose to live instead of sacrificing herself for their unborn child knowing that her fragile body was unable to handle the difficulties of childbearing.[4] Despite the tragic fate that awaited them, Diana insisted on continuing with the pregnancy and encouraged Claude to give their child the love that he had shown her.[6] She chose to name her unborn daughter Athanasia, defying the royal tradition of bestowing names that meant immortality to only official heirs to the empire.[7] Within the walls of the Ruby Palace, Diana ultimately died giving birth to Athanasia.[3]

Claude begs Diana to stay

Diana met Claude after she was invited to the royal banquet. It was shown in the manhwa, in Athanasia de Alger Obelia's dream, that after the banquet, Claude ran after Diana.

Claude's cold attitude towards Athanasia de Alger Obelia is because of Diana as she greatly resembles her mother. It was shown that Claude begged Diana to choose him and not Athanasia, who was slowly eating away her life when Diana was pregnant with her. Claude was madly in love with Diana and it caused him great heartache when she chose to give her life to give birth to Athanasia, to the point were he began to resent both his daughter and late lover post her death and turned to dark magic to erase his emotions. Diana's crying while Claude was begging her can also be a hint that it was hard for her to choose between her lover and her unborn child as she too loved Claude.

It was explained in the novel that he (Claude) wanted to dispel the rumor that "Diana was forgotten/abandoned by the emperor". Diana was never forgotten by Claude. Rumors spread like wildfire, and though Claude tried to deal with them, there are still Obelian citizens who believe that "Diana was forgotten/abandoned by the emperor".

Later on, it was revealed that Diana never left Claude's side even after her death and that the hallucinations he had of her were actually real. Diana's soul moved on after she helped Athanasia save her father.

Athanasia de Alger Obelia

Athanasia is Diana's daughter.

Etymology

  • The name "Diana" is derived from old Indo-European roots, meaning divine. The Persian form of "Diana" means "supplier of beneficence and wellness."[8]

      • She was the Roman equivalent of the Greek goddess Artemis.[9]

Trivia

  • The gem on Diana’s forehead is an Indian jewelry known as a bindi, a colored dot worn on the center of the forehead, originally by Hindus and Jains from the Indian subcontinent. The area between the eyebrows is believed to be the seat of “concealed wisdom” and the bindi retains energy and strengthens concentration.[10]
    • Spoon mentions in her tweet that it is said the energy of life resides in the forehead and the bindi holds the meaning of preventing misfortune.[11]
